How to manage DNS records in cPanel

If your domain uses our nameservers (ns0.thundercloud.uk and ns1.thundercloud.uk), its DNS records are managed in cPanel's Zone Editor.

Open the Zone Editor

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. In the Domains section, click Zone Editor.
  3. Find your domain in the list.

Quick-add buttons

Beside each domain are buttons for the most common records:

  • + A Record – points a name to an IP address
  • + CNAME Record – points a name to another name (an alias)
  • + MX Record – tells the internet where to deliver email

Add any other record

Click Manage next to the domain, then Add Record. Choose the type (A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV, CAA), fill in the name, TTL and value, and click Save Record. TXT records are used for SPF, DKIM, DMARC and domain verification codes from services such as Google or Microsoft.

Edit or delete a record

On the Manage screen, click Edit or Delete beside the record.

Things to know

  • Changes take effect on our nameservers straight away, but can take time to appear elsewhere because of caching (see How to check DNS propagation).
  • Deleting or changing A, MX or TXT records can take your website or email offline. If you're unsure, raise a ticket first.
