How to set up email on Android

These steps use the Gmail app, which is installed on most Android phones. Other apps such as Outlook for Android use the same settings.

  1. Open the Gmail app, tap your profile picture and choose Add another account.
  2. Tap Other.
  3. Enter your full email address and tap Manual setup.
  4. Choose Personal (IMAP).
  5. Enter your mailbox password and tap Next.
  6. Incoming server settings:
    • Username: your full email address
    • Server: your server hostname
    • Port 993, security type SSL/TLS
  7. Outgoing server settings:
    • Tick Require sign-in, using the same username and password
    • SMTP server: your server hostname
    • Port 465, security type SSL/TLS
  8. Choose your sync options and give the account a name.

If you see a certificate warning, check that you used the server hostname rather than your own domain.
