My website is down: what should I do?

1. Is it just you?

Check with a service such as downforeveryoneorjustme.com, or try on your phone using mobile data instead of Wi-Fi.

If it's down for everyone

  • Check for an email from us about suspension or an unpaid invoice, and check your client portal for overdue invoices.
  • Check the domain hasn't expired with a WHOIS lookup.
  • Read the error. A 500 error usually means a website problem; check your error log and any recent changes.
  • Check DNS. If you recently changed nameservers or records, they may still be propagating.
  • Check resource usage in cPanel for 503/508 errors.

If it's only down for you

Your IP address may have been blocked by the server firewall after repeated failed logins (for example to email, cPanel or WordPress). See How to troubleshoot website access issues, or raise a ticket with your IP address (find it at whatismyip.com) and we'll unblock it.

Still stuck?

Raise a ticket with the domain, what you see, and when it started.
